Harbor is developed by an independent developer, not a company. This policy explains what
information Harbor collects, how it's used, and the choices you have — written in plain
language rather than dense legal text.
Who this applies to
This Privacy Policy covers the Harbor iOS app ("Harbor," "the app," "we," "us"). By creating
an account or using Harbor, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect only what's needed to run the app:
- Account information: the name and email address you provide when creating an account, and your password (handled entirely by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your password ourselves).
- Content you create: journal entries, prayers, and notes you write; mood check-ins and tags; growth areas / "seasons" you select; and verses you save.
- Usage information: things like your check-in streak and which verses you've already been shown, so Harbor doesn't repeat itself.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active subscription, managed through Apple's In-App Purchase system via RevenueCat. We do not see or store your payment card details — Apple handles all payment processing.
We do not collect location data, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers, and Harbor contains no third-party advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, and sync your journal across your devices.
- To match you with a relevant daily verse based on the growth areas you've selected.
- To generate a short, personalized AI reflection on a journal entry, when you write one. This sends the text of that entry, your mood tags for the day, and the paired verse to OpenAI's API solely to generate that reflection — it is not used to train OpenAI's models, and no other journal entries or account details are sent.
- To schedule the optional daily reminder notification you can turn on — this is a local notification generated on your device; no reminder content is sent anywhere.
- To respond if you contact us for support.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising purposes. We use a small number of service providers to run Harbor, each of which only receives what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication. Your account and journal data is stored here.
- OpenAI — processes journal entry text to generate AI reflections, as described above.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status in coordination with Apple's App Store.
- Apple — processes any payments and delivers local notifications on your device.
We may also disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Harbor or its users.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your
account and all associated data — journal entries, mood history, saved verses, and your
profile — at any time from Profile → Delete Account in the app. This action is
immediate and cannot be undone.
Your choices
- You can edit your growth areas, remove saved verses, and delete individual journal entries at any time within the app.
- You can turn the daily reminder notification on or off at any time from Profile → Notifications, or disable notifications system-wide in iOS Settings.
- You can request a copy of your data or ask questions about this policy by emailing us (below).
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your
information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee
absolute security, but we work to protect your data appropriately for what it is — personal
journal content.
Children's privacy
Harbor is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal
information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal
information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Not a substitute for professional care
Harbor is a personal journaling and reflection tool with a Christian foundation. It is not a
substitute for professional mental health care, medical advice, or pastoral counseling. If
you're in crisis or need to talk to someone now, please reach out to a licensed professional
or a crisis line in your area.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Harbor changes. If we make material changes, we'll update the
"Last updated" date above, and where appropriate, notify you in the app.
